Alexander Dennis has drawn a line under months of speculation by confirming its Scottish factories will stay open. After a spell of quiet but intensive talks with staff, unions and other stakeholders, the UK’s best-known bus builder has decided that its home turf still has a place in its long-term plans.

Stagecoach West Scotland has just pulled the wraps off a world first – a fleet of 12 electric midibuses, unveiled this week and they're rolling out on Ayrshire’s all-electric bus routes this autumn. This snazzy £5 million investment adds a dozen Enviro100EV midibuses to the mix across East, South and North Ayrshire, boosting Stagecoach’s electric fleet in the area to a solid 60.

Stagecoach West Scotland unveiled its fleet of 27 fully electric buses at an official launch event today 20th February 2023 at the historic Robert Burns Birthplace – Burns Cottage. Stagecoach has announced that it will expand its autonomous bus technology development with new trials in Cambridge and Sunderland, as well as extending its Scottish cross-Forth Road Bridge trial to cover a longer route. The BYD ADL partnership will produce 50 Enviro200EVs for First Glasgow's Scotstoun depot. First Aberdeen will receive 24 Yutong E12 models from Pelican Bus and Coach. The latter will be Yutong's first vehicles for First in Scotland. First Bus First has committed £35 million to the production of the 74 zero emission buses and associated infrastructure, with the BYD ADL batch accounting for £19.7 million, and the Yutong deliveries accounting for £8.4 million. Furthermore, £4.8 million will be invested in Scotstoun and £2.1 million in Aberdeen to install rapid charging points. The work is expected to take a year, with the first buses arriving in 2023. When the delivery is completed, 50% of the First Aberdeen fleet will be zero-emission.
