Celtic Travel to Operate TrawsCymru T4 Service

Mid Wales-based operator Celtic Travel has secured a major boost after being awarded the contract to operate the TrawsCymru T4 service, running between Merthyr Tydfil and Newtown. The new contract, set to commence in September 2025, will see Celtic Travel take over one of the TrawsCymru network’s key long-distance routes, linking communities across Powys and the South Wales Valleys. The deal marks a significant win for the Llanidloes-based firm, which is set to step up its role in delivering high-profile inter-urban services as part of the Welsh Government’s flagship TrawsCymru network.

Switch Mobility to Assess Potential for e1 Electric Single-deck Bus in UK Market

Switch Mobility will show its heavyweight e1 battery-electric single-deck bus at Euro Bus Expo as it evaluates whether the model will suit the UK market. It will be one of three zero-emission buses on the manufacturer’s stand at this year's Euro Bus Expo.

The e1 first appeared in left-hand drive form in 2022. Such an example will be presented at the NEC. Switch did not intend to build the e1 for the UK at first, but Chief Marketing and Sustainability Officer Peter Freedman says that in the meantime, interest from potential customers has been received.
“This will be a good opportunity to show the UK bus industry what the future of our vehicles looks like, he explains. We have already seen a lot of interest in the e1.”
Mr Freedman adds that building the e1 in right-hand drive format is reliant on a suitable enabling order from an operator partner. Transitioning the vehicle from its current layout to one that would suit domestic users is reasonably easy, he notes.

Alongside the e1 on the Switch Mobility stand at Euro Bus Expo will be a pair of battery-electric MetroCity single deckers. One will be an 8.7m example and the other a 10.8m model. Updated batteries will form part of the MetroCity line-up.

Euro Bus Expo will be held between the 1st and 3rd November 2022 at the NEC Birmingham. To register for a free trade pass to attend, visit eurobusxpo.com.
