AI Powered Timetables Promise a Smoother Ride for Greater Glasgow

Punctuality on Glasgow’s buses has improved by 8.5 per cent since First Bus started handing the timetable over to artificial intelligence. That figure covers more than 60 routes tweaked using AI-powered scheduling software, which analyses live traffic data and historical patterns to build timetables that reflect how the city actually moves — or crawls — during the day. It is an approach that appears to be working, and First is betting on it again.

Metroline Confirms 48 Volvo BZL Electric Bus Order for London

Transport for London bus operator Metroline, which is a subsidiary of global transport operator ComfortDelGro, has confirmed a significant order for 48 Volvo BZL Electric single deck buses. The order is one of the largest for the Volvo BZL Electric bus so far, and they will enter service in London in the second half of next year.

The Metroline vehicles will have MCV bodywork and be constructed to TfL specifications in a variety of lengths (9.7m, 10.35m, and 10.8m), with a maximum capacity of 62 to 67 passengers depending on length. The buses will be designed to Transport for London specifications and will include Volvo Connect Zone Management and CCS depot charging.

ComfortDelGro (UK) Group Engineering Director Ian Foster said,
“Metroline is pleased to place this order with Volvo for the latest additions to our single deck ZE fleet. We have a long-standing relationship involving all areas of our transport operations around the world, and this reflects the trust we have in Volvo Buses delivering a reliable product with exceptional aftermarket support and service.”
Volvo Buses UK & Ireland Managing Director Domenico Bondi added,
“We are thrilled to receive this latest order from Metroline. The Volvo BZL Electric is very well suited for Metroline’s operations in London, and will help deliver clean, silent and efficient public transport, and in addition builds on our strong business partnership with Metroline, and our partnership towards zero emission people transport.

“I am delighted that we now take a major step in to the UK market with the Volvo BZL Electric and that we will provide services and long-term support to Metroline and their passengers in London."
