Hot on the heels of the recent bus franchising update for St Helens, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has confirmed the detail behind one of its headline promises for St Helens. Liverpool Cruise Port Welcomes Karsan e-JEST Electric Buses
Liverpool Cruise Port has recently taken delivery of two brand new, fully electric Karsan e-JEST buses, a welcome and well-timed addition that marks another positive step in the port's journey towards a cleaner, quieter and more sustainable operation.

Shuttling in Style
The new electric buses will support the passenger shuttle service on the quayside, helping cruise guests move safely and comfortably between key areas of the port operation. Once both vehicles are in service, they will do away with the need for diesel shuttle buses altogether. This change should help reduce emissions, improve air quality and create a noticeably quieter, more comfortable environment for cruise guests, crew, port staff and the wider waterfront community alike.
A Partnership Approach
The project has been delivered in partnership with Presidential Travel, which provides the shuttle bus service at the port and continues to work closely with the Liverpool Cruise Port team to support safe, efficient and responsible cruise operations.
John Mawer, General Manager, Global Ports Holding UK, said:
“Introducing electric vehicles into our port operation at Liverpool Cruise Port is a practical step towards reducing emissions, modernising our fleet and demonstrating our commitment to a more sustainable future for the port and our community.
“We thank our port partner Presidential Travel for joining us on this sustainability journey and for working with us to improve the passenger experience while reducing the environmental impact of our port operations.”
Phil Hislop, Transport Manager at Presidential Travel, said:
“Liverpool is one of the UK's most iconic cruise destinations, and it's important that transport services reflect the city's ambition and innovation.
“This new electric shuttle helps create a cleaner environment around the waterfront while enhancing the overall passenger experience.
“It also demonstrates what can be achieved when partners share the same vision for sustainability, accessibility and customer service.”
Onwards and Upwards
The arrival of the first electric shuttle bus forms part of Liverpool Cruise Port's wider commitment to improving the sustainability of its operation while continuing to support the growth of cruise in the city.
The buses will also contribute to an improved guest experience, offering passengers a quieter and cleaner shuttle journey to and from Liverpool's iconic waterfront, proof that a warm welcome and a cleaner conscience needn't be mutually exclusive.

From Sunday 6th September 2026, St Helens becomes the first place in the Liverpool City Region to see its buses come back under public control and the improvements landing on Day One are by no means insignificant. Two-hourly routes are being upgraded to hourly, evening and weekend timetables are being extended and a brand-new express link to Liverpool John Lennon Airport is being introduced from the off.
