Transport for London (TfL) has unveiled 'Buses for London', a new publicly owned bus company for the capital, and named route 6 as the first service it will run.  Tom Harrison (Bus Ambassador) The company is due to launch in late 2027, with Park Royal Depot in west London as its first operational base. A further four routes will be announced over the coming year and are due to transfer from 2028. TfL says the company will let it test new approaches to reliability, safety, decarbonisation, customer experience and driver welfare. Celtic Travel to Operate TrawsCymru T4 Service

Mid Wales-based operator Celtic Travel has secured a major boost after being awarded the contract to operate the TrawsCymru T4 service, running between Merthyr Tydfil and Newtown. The new contract, set to commence in September 2025, will see Celtic Travel take over one of the TrawsCymru network’s key long-distance routes, linking communities across Powys and the South Wales Valleys. The deal marks a significant win for the Llanidloes-based firm, which is set to step up its role in delivering high-profile inter-urban services as part of the Welsh Government’s flagship TrawsCymru network.

The popular route has been operating for 14 years and is well used by commuters, students, residents and tourists accessing Bannau Brycheiniog, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and many of the lovely towns and villages along the route.

Celtic Travel, based in Llanidloes, Powys, has been delivering reliable transport services across Mid Wales and the surrounding areas since 2006.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales Ken Skates said:
“It’s good to see Celtic Travel join the Traws network and deliver the T4 from September this year. This is an important route linking towns and villages in mid Wales.”
Phyl Davies, Director of Celtic Travel, commented:
“We’re excited to be taking on this new contract and will be working with our colleagues at Williams of Brecon to ensure we deliver an improved level of service and reliability for T4 customers using our many years of experience delivering coach and bus services to the people of Powys.

“It’s great to be part of the TrawsCymru network, and with our knowledge of the local road network and an appreciation of the geography of this area, we feel we can bring a great deal to this service.”
Lee Robinson, Executive Director for Regional Transport and Integration at TfW, said:
“We’re looking forward to working with Celtic Travel to provide this service. We will be developing the timetable and improving services where we can, including the introduction of new vehicles in March next year.

“This is a fantastic example of how small and medium-sized operators can work in partnership to bid for tenders and take on new contracts.”
The TrawsCymru T4 will continue to be operated by Stagecoach until the end of August, then from September Stagecoach will launch a new X4 service between Merthyr and Cardiff with buses operating up to every sixty minutes, Monday to Saturday.

The new X4 service will serve Treforest Industrial Estate, offering improved connections to places of work, education and leisure.

Seven British-Built Treka CitySprints Join Liverpool City Region's Metro Fleet

Seven British-built Treka CitySprint minibuses are entering service in the Liverpool City Region, giving the new franchised Metro bus network a compact option for routes where larger buses are not suitable. The vehicles are built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, with bodywork by Treka Bus at its factory in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. They have been delivered to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA). Three have gone to St Helens and four to Wirral. Treka Bus St Helens became the first part of the city region to bring its buses back under public control on 6th September. Wirral follows on 25th October 2026, and bus franchising will then be extended across the rest of the region throughout 2027.

Edwards Coaches Named Lead Operator for New TaithCymru Coach Service

Edwards Coaches has been appointed to run TaithCymru , Transport for Wales's (TfW) new coach service linking north and south-west Wales, with north Wales operator Llew Jones as its partner. Transport for Wales From 25th October, TaithCymru will run nine return journeys a day between Bangor and Carmarthen railway stations. It will call at Caernarfon, Porthmadog, Dolgellau, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth bus station and Aberaeron.
