Alexander Dennis has secured a firm order from First Bus for 17 of its next-generation zero-emission single-deckers to operate in Bath from 2026. The deal covers 12 Enviro200EV and five Enviro100EV, supported by funding from the Department for Transport’s Zero-Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme through the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

Alexander Dennis has delivered 13 of its next-generation Enviro100EV single-deckers to Transport UK London Bus for operation on behalf of Transport for London (TfL). The order marks the operator’s first batch of the new model and one of the earliest deployments of the type on TfL services.

The compact electric buses are now at work on route G1, which threads between Battersea and Streatham. At just 8.5 metres long and 2.35 metres wide, the Enviro100EV is purpose-built for the estate roads and tight turns that characterise the 10-mile loop, which serves housing estates and St George’s Hospital.

Paul Hennigan, Fleet and Facilities Director, Transport UK London Bus, said,

“The Enviro100EV is a bespoke zero-emission vehicle for a unique service, with impressive colleague feedback. Our drivers appreciate the well-designed cab environment and enjoy the smooth driveline, which helps to deliver an excellent passenger experience. From an engineering perspective, the bus is well designed and creatively makes superb use of space. Manufacturer support has also been first rate and the company looks forward to operating these vehicles over the coming years.”

Lorna Murphy, Director of Buses, Transport for London, said,

“Public transport plays a vital role in connecting communities and improving access to healthcare. People in south London rely on the G1 to get around and it is an essential link to St George’s Hospital. Locals will be delighted with a new state-of-the-art vehicle getting them from A to B and the addition of more electric buses to the area. These buses demonstrate the very best of British manufacturing, meeting the design challenge of building a bus that can negotiate the narrow streets on this route and helping to contribute to the wider effort greening the whole bus network. This adds to the significant progress that has already been made in the capital with more than 25% of the fleet now zero emission.”

Each Enviro100EV uses the Voith Electrical Drive System with 354kWh of onboard energy storage, giving ample range between charges at Transport UK’s Battersea garage. Early data from Alexander Dennis’s AD Connect telematics shows energy use is tracking exactly as modelled.

Neil Gladstone, National Account Manager, Alexander Dennis, said,

“We’re grateful to have been chosen by Transport UK London Bus to supply the new fleet for route G1, and delighted that these new Enviro100EV are meeting the expectations for our customer. We look forward to continuing to support the Transport UK London Bus team with insights from our AD Connect telematics to allow them to maximise availability, efficiency and reliability of the fleet. Our Enviro100EV is perfect for this kind of Transport for London route and it is great to see them bringing accessible, zero-emission transport to communities in South London.”
